Introduction:
Slack is an online workspace, commonly used for communication between coworkers across the country. You will use it every day to communicate with anyone within your personal franchise team, MSM HQ, and other zees.
1. **Overview**
You will need access to slack. You can use the website on your computer, and the app on your phone.
2. **entering the ‘MSM workspace’:**
Once you open slack, you will need to be invited to the workspace, or you enter the workspace URL. ours is middle-school-matchup.slack.com. Once you are in, you may be overwhelmed with seeing tons of channels, conversations and people. Don't worry, it is not as complicated as it seems initially, just takes some clicking around to adjust your eyes.
3. **Getting To Know The System:**
Slack provides their own training modules that you can click through to catch you up to speed. That can be found here https://slack.com/help/categories/360000049063
We recommend going through the tutorials, this will get you more familiarized with the layout and how work generally happens within the app. Below we have attached a snapshot of what we look at through slack. This will give you a basic rundown of what you're looking at.
These are all the different channels you will be in, these are all distinct areas of different topics.
This is where you can find anyone within MSM HQ, so if you needed to start a direct message, you can find them here.
Here we see a drop down reply, this means there is a conversation there specifically about Chad’s comment
This is the reply box, you type you message here and send it off. As you can see there is a tool box with emojis, options for video and voice messages
Here you can find everyone within the certain channel you are looking at.
Now that is the very basic rundown of what you should be looking at, it is still important to go through slacks training they provide. Click around, get familiar and comfortable.
**Best Practices:**
Keep notifications on! Tif your notifications are not on you could miss a very time sensitive message, absolutely derailing a project or situation
You can @ people just like twitter or instagram on here and it is very helpful. Notifications are weird depending on your settings, for example you can tag @channel and notify everyone in there. Or you could tag one person and notify only them
Always have a slack window open on your computer, so you can hear any notifications
